If you followed my self-defense lesson blogs since the beginning (May 2021), CONGRATULATIONS you completed the short fight self-defense curriculum! Great job staying committed in your training! Go ahead and pat yourself on the back.
So what do you do now?
Well, like most skills learned, you have to practice your newfound skills to get better at them. Merely reading, watching, and practicing a skill one time will hardly make you proficient at it. Furthermore, learning self-defense is a life saving practice. You never know when you may find yourself in a situation where you have to protect your life, or the life of a loved one.
It takes approximately 300 times of practicing a technique to build the neurological pathways necessary for it to become fluid, and 3,00 to 10,00 times for you to be able to master it. Mastery, defined as in being able to perform the technique on someone without thinking about it.
While this might sound like a lot, it really isn't. If you practice throwing a strike ten times a day for 30 days, you will have reached 300 repetitions of that strike.
Practice that same technique for 300 days (~10 months), and you will be at 3,000, on the road to mastering it. By this time it will feel like second nature, and you will be effective in using that technique.
As such, we will be reviewing all of our self defense lessons again in our upcoming "Self Defense Technique of the Week" blogs.
Congratulations again and keep practicing!
