Hook Punch From A Kneeling-mounted Position

This week we cover how to deliver a hook punch from being mounted on the assailant. When this technique and position are combined, it makes for a powerful fight-ending scenario. This is why if you're going to go to the ground with an assailant, be the person on top.

How to perform hook punches from a kneeling-mounted position:

  1. Kneeling on the floor with your knees slightly apart (around the assailants torso), sit back onto your legs keeping your weight down on them.

  2. Deliver hook punches by punching across in a sweeping motion across the assailant’s face (heavy bag or padded object in practice as seen above).

  3. Practice both repeated single-hook punches and alternating hook punch strikes, until you get a good feel for the position.

  4. If you are using a training partner, have them try to get up, or move around while you maintain the top mounted position. Also, have them hold a large focus mitt for you to hit.

Below is a quick video tutorial of how to perform this technique.
