Palm Heel Strike (part 2) From Lying On Your Back

One of the worse positions to be in when defending yourself...

One of the worse positions to be in when defending yourself, is lying on your back with a bigger, heavier and/or stronger person above you. They can hit you with various strikes using all of their momentum (power), whereas you will have limited power when striking up at them. Additionally, if you try to hold on to them, they can smash you into the ground (concrete/pavement etc.) repeatedly.

Your goal should always be to get back up to your feet, so you can either run away, or fight from the standing position. The easiest way to do this is to fight viciously off your back, using whatever weapons you have at your disposal. Palm heel striking the assailants face is a great tactic to disorient them, which may allow you to escape from underneath them.

How to perform palm heel strikes from lying on your back:

  1. Lie on your back with your knees and feet up off the floor partially wrapped around the assailant's torso (see pic above).

  2. Pull him into you then,

  3. Roll straight up, like a crunch, as you deliver alternating palm heel strikes to the assailant (practice on heavy bag, or partner holding a padded object, or in the air).

  4. Use your forward-crunching up momentum when striking.

  5. After delivering multiple palm heel strikes, kick the assailant away, and get up off the ground.

  6. Another variation:

  7. Lie on your back with your knees and feet up off the floor partially wrapped around the assailant's torso (see pic above).

  8. Pull him into you then,

  9. Roll up partially to your side, like a side crunch, and deliver diagonal strikes to the assailant (practice in air, on heavy bag, or partner holding a padded object).

  10. Use your side-crunching up momentum when striking.

  11. After delivering multiple palm heel strikes, kick the assailant away, and get up off the ground.
